Josephine Modupe Aluko was widowed at the young age of 34 years and was a single parent to 5 young children.
She worked at the University of Ife, Nigeria (Now Obafemi Awolowo University) as a caterer for years, eventually working her way up to Catering Manager.
In her forties and with her adult children also studying at the same University, she enrolled in evening Law classes and was called to the bar (admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria) at the Law school at the age of 50 years. She practiced as a Lawyer for several years.
As she pursued her own dreams, she helped others pursue theirs. Many who passed through her home were beneficiaries of her generosity as she educated them alongside her children.
The scholarship was started in her memory to enable young widows accomplish their educational dreams. We hope recipients will pay it forward.
